By 2022 share of RE will expand to 220 GW
India eye on global manufacturing hub stature by 2026
The 3rd Global Re-Invest Renewable Energy Investors Meet & Expo, organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, will be held from 26 & up to 28 November 2020 on a Virtual platform.
India
is one of the largest producers of renewable energy. Currently, the renewable
capacity of India is 136 GW, which is 36% of the total capacity of the country.
The Indian Govt has targeted solar projects for houses by 2022. As of September
2020, 89.22 GW of RE (Renewable Energy) is already operational, projects of
48.21 GW are at various stages of implementation and projects of 25.64 GW
capacities are under various stages of bidding.
During inaugural Prime Minister of India reminded the audience that the announcements by India in the past editions of re-invest were becoming a reality.
He spoke about the efforts to provide access to energy to all citizens of India. India’s RE capacity is 4th largest and is growing the fastest among all major economies of the world. By 2022 share of RE will expand to 220 GW.
In the last six years we increased our installed RE capacity by two and half times and solar capacity by thirteen times. This is an outcome of commitment to fight climate change.
India is among the very few countries whose achievement is 2 degree compliant. India’s approach is that of Access, Efficiency and Evolution. He spoke about the PM-KUSUM scheme in which solar power is being used to power irrigation pumps.
